Attack the Blog: The Best Links for the Week of 1/12/2012

January 12, 2012 — 2 Comments

It felt like a bit of a slow week in the blogosphere. Maybe it was the continued talk about 2011, which for me is pretty played out at this point. Maybe it was that other than 2011 films there is nothing good coming out in cinemas at the moment. January is often a dark time to be a film lover, especially when you’ve already watched most of the awards-baiting movies.

I did read a number of great blog posts, though, and I’ve collected my favourites for you.

The new year has caused a bit of reflection in movie bloggers. Scott at Front Room Cinema, for example, wrote about watching classic films after seeing homages to them in modern films.

Ryan, over at The Matinee, wrote a thought-provoking piece which asked the question, do people still care about movies?

Bondo, from Movie Review Warehouse, wrote a piece exploring the world of documentaries, contemplating what even counts as a true doc these day.

My favourite blog post of the week is a review of War Horse by Lisa Hanawalt, over at The Hairpin. But it’s not just any review. It’s an ILLUSTRATED review! And the illustrations really are amazing.

Finally, Alex the Film Forager, blogger/artist extraordinaire, made a poster for The Blues Brothers, and I’ve got to say, it’s fucking fantastic. Check out the main image:

Check out the full poster over at Alex’s blog, and if you can’t get enough of it and just have to have it on your wall, Alex is selling prints!
