The Pleasures of Cooking

August 3, 2011 — 1 Comment

There’s nothing quite like cooking something. And I don’t mean throwing some pre-cooked ingredients into a pan and frying something up just because you need to eat. I mean taking fresh products and lovingly coming up with something tasty. Even better is when you can throw it all together in a matter of minutes.

Today I made myself poached eggs sitting on toast with black forest ham, diced tomato, parsley and some balsamic vinegar. I also sprinkled some salt and ground black pepper on it.

It took me about five minutes to make and only slightly longer to devour. Not sure it’s a dish that could win Top Chef–Anthony “egg slut” Bourdain would have appreciated it, I’m sure—but the satisfaction of it all knows no bounds. I’m a lover of good food, but there’s nothing quite the same as cooking something on your own, for yourself, and savouring it immediately afterward. It doesn’t have to be amazing. Good is good enough when there’s love poured in.
